Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL)

VESL is for students whose primary language is something other than English and whose goal is to find a job or career advancement.  VESL is also for students interested in enrolling in one of HLPAE’s career technical education programs (CTE).  Students who complete the VESL program will improve English language skills and acquire the skills necessary to obtain employment in their chosen career.  **See IET page for more information**

Prerequisite: Must be concurrently enrolled in a CTE program.  Onsite CASAS Pre & Post Test Required.

ESL/Citizenship Preparation

Become a U.S. Citizen!

Classes include: U.S. History, Government & Oral/Written Preparation for USCIS (Formerly INS) test and interview.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security does not endorse any products or commercial services mentioned in the brochure.

  • Registration for Citizenship Preparation class must be done in person.
  • Registering for family members or other students is not permitted.
  • Onsite CASAS Pre & Post Test Required.

  • The minimum age requirement to enroll is 18.

Citizenship Application Workshops!

You are invited to FREE Citizenship Application Workshops offered monthly in partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC).

Workshops are held at our Dibble Campus (1600 Pontenova Avenue Hacienda Heights, CA 91745)

APPOINTMENTS REQUIRED. Sign-up sheets available through our Citizenship class or email AAJC directly at citizenship@ajsocal.org. Please email AAJC if you need translation assistance.

You qualify for Citizenship if you…

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Are a permanent resident (you have a Green Card)
  • Have resided continuously in the U.S. for more than 5 years (or if you are married to a U.S. citizen, more than 3 years)
  • Have been physically present in the U.S. for more than 2 years (or if you are married to a U.S. citizen, more than 1 year)
  • You can show you have good moral character
  • You can speak, read, and write basic English
  • You can pass a test on U.S. government and history
